How to book Corcovado without mistakes: guide, date and sector

Corcovado is one of the richest wildlife places in Costa Rica, and also one of the easiest to book wrong. This is what I recommend you have clear before paying for anything.
What the park requires
- A registered local guide. It is mandatory: without one you will not be allowed in.
- A reserved date. Reservations open up to six months ahead and are personal.
- An open sector. Not every sector is open all year; Sirena, the one with the most wildlife, is closed in October.
Cost and hours
The SINAC entrance fee is US$15 per day for foreign adults, plus tax. Sectors are open 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Swimming is not allowed inside the park.
The easiest way
Book a tour or a lodge that bundles the guide, the boat, the park reservation and lunch, so one person handles the logistics. Check dates early, especially in high season.
On Pura Osa I wrote a step-by-step guide to booking Corcovado, and a pocket cheat sheet to take along. Confirm fees and hours with the official source before you travel.
